In Poland sometimes (actually quite often) children who haven’t behaved properly during last year receive birch for beating (in Polish „rózga”). No worries nobody uses it, it’s only to symbolize punishment that bad children deserves. We would like to stress that we don’t like this idea at all, because nobody deserves such punishment.
